Backstory: For a few days each week for a couple of months from October-December 2023, I covered maternity leave for Emi’s art teacher at Linden Park Elementary here in Idaho Falls.

For one of the projects I did with the kids, which is what I'd done with the kids when I covered for a few months in 2022, I ordered a 30”x40” large canvas for each grade to paint til the end of the year. In each class, I’d have a group of 4-5 work on the large painting while the rest works on something else. I went over some of the famous artists, and I chose a painting from various artists for each grade to paint. The artists I picked for each grade were K-Piet Mondrian, 1st-Edvard Munch, 2nd-Frida Kahlo, 3rd-Mary Cassatt, 4th-Paul Gauguin, 5th-Andy Warhol, and 6th-James McNeill Whistler.

Within the first week of starting these the first time in 2022, I realized it’s pretty hard for the students to paint from just a photo. So I decided I’d do a 12”x16” painting of each grades’ painting for them to reference. With mine, they could more easily see brushstrokes and paint thickness. It’s also always a very good education for me when I do a master’s study. Each time I’ve painted one, I learn so many new things about colors, design, and techniques. Now that school’s ended and they’re no longer needed as a reference for the students, each of my 7 pieces will be available.
