30 in 30 Challenge - Original Acrylic Painting on Panel by Jacob Secrest
I've started this year's 30-in-30 Challenge!
Last year, I'd noticed that my paintings were taking a lot longer than I think they should have been as I was overthinking and overworking them, so I decided to do a 30 day challenge where I would do one study piece each day on top of my normal commissions I am working through. I would set a timer for 2 hours and that would be my time limit for these pieces. This would help me not overthink or get too focused on the details early in a piece. I asked my Facebook followers to send me photos of just about any subject and the kiddos and I each selected 10 of our favorites for the 30 images. This has given a wide range of subjects. We mixed them up and I will just pull whatever picture is next and that is what I'll paint! Hopefully, most if not all turn out but the main point is to stretch and challenge me to simplify things again.

Having suppressed painting for many years in pursuit of my education and supporting a young family, I have rekindled my love for art when I painted an “Umbrella Girl” painting for my daughter and saw the joy and excitement in her eyes.
